Fabric host The Barn at The Social Festival
Nina Kraviz, Bjarki, трип Records, & Function
We are immensely proud to welcome the one and only Nina Kraviz back to The Social Festival for a third time. For our 5th year the трип (trip) records boss has pulled out all the stops – this September Miss Kraviz is bringing none other than American Techno Behemoth and Berghain resident Function, as well as трип royalty and fellow arctic-circler Bjarki.
Summer 2014 was Nina’s first appearance at The Social Festival. Back then she was on the brink of starting her own imprint трип records, which she kicked off herself with TRP001: The Deviant Octopus. Since then трип has become home to all that is unadulterated, raw, and fast-paced in dance music; it is the meeting point of Nina’s love for both acid and trance.
The past 3 years have seen Nina soar to new heights of renown. The increasing prevalence of old-school Trance, Acid, and Hardcore in her sets means there is seldom a dull moment, and more often than not they feature some long-forgotten yet well-recognised anthems that send the dance floor into pandemonium. One thing is for sure, Nina is on the path to getting her name etched into Techno history books.
There must be something about the cold north of the world that brings pace and intensity to the music made there – maybe they need to dance faster to stay warmer up there? Whatever it is, Nina certainly found a kindred spirit in Iceland, in the form of Bjarki.
Bjarki has featured on трип from the beginning on TRP001 and TRP002, but 2015 saw his first solo трип release TRP0003: Arthur & The Intergalactic Whales, featuring the undeniable Techno anthem I Wanna Go Bang, a staple of Nina’s sets as well as his own.
Bjarki’s latest EP TRP015: This 5321, is set to drop on 11th August. The release consists of 4 fast, heavy, and uncompromising rollers, with an intensity that leaves you no option but to turn to your friends on the dance floor with that knowing look mouthing “Jesus Christ!”.
As for his sets, these are truly something special and unique to behold. Live and spontaneous, his sets are a barrage of otherworldly sounds and noises, and whilst hard and heavy, his performances never lose taste or integrity that is often foregone in the more extreme end of dance music.
From across the pond we have Function, real name Dave Sumner, who bears the markings of a world-class underground Techno DJ. Ever since witnessing Jeff Mills’ residency at The Limelight in New York in the early 90s, Sumner has remained transfixed on the genre in his production and performances alike.
2007 saw Sumner locate to the global capital of Techno, Berlin, where along with Regis (Karl O’Connor) founded the critically acclaimed and cult-following imprint Sandwell District. 2013 however saw him acquire that holy grail of Techno accolades, a residency at Berlin’s infamous Berghain, as well as become a recording artist for the Club’s own Ostgut Ton label.
Mark our words, Function is definitely one to watch this year, and we’re super eager to see him push the limits of The Barn and take the Showground to the stratosphere.
