INSIDE THE MIND AGAINST
We caught up with the German duo to get inside their Minds ahead of their set at The Social Festival this September.
Jake Bailey - Hi guys, how has the summer of 2016 treated you both so far?
Mind Against -The summer has been very intense and challenging so far but luckily our schedule is full of great gigs that we love playing.
So far, our summer highlights have been SONAR festival, Dour, Melt, Exit and many more. We’re ready to kick into August/September and play all the great events that are lined up, including The Social that we’re reallu looking forward to playing.
Jake Bailey - How does a duo decide what music style they are going to stick to?
Mind Against - Being brothers definitely creates a special link between us. On stage, everything happens very naturally without us really needing to talk.
We don’t prepare our sets, we just let the crowd and it’s energy guide us in our music selection.
Of course, we have some key tracks that are important parts of Mind Against DJ sets but we can’t really say in advance which ones we’ll play.
We play a different kind of music but it’s common point is definitely to be introspective, somehow emotional and focus on making people feel different emotions. This is something that’s very important to us.
Jake Bailey - You’re a family member of Afterlife at Space Ibiza this year, how has that been for you?
Mind Against - We indeed are active parts of Afterlife, both on the label and events. The Ibiza shows we have played so far were amazing and we cannot wait to play more throughout the season. Throwing such a night in Ibiza was a big challenge and we’re delighted to see how good things have been going so far.
On the label side of things, we’re excited to tell you that we’ll have an EP out in October that we’ve been working on for a long time. We’re very happy with the results and hope you guys will like those tracks as much as we do
Jake Bailey - Your latest track Gravity out on AL is a very melodic emotional track. What goes into producing these tracks?
Mind Against - No rules is the rule. Sometimes we lock ourselves in our studio for days to create tracks. Sometimes we work separately and end up meeting and merging our ideas. It also often happens that we produce tracks while travelling, with only a laptop in our hands and a bit of time
Jake Bailey - You make you debut at The Social Festival this year, who are you looking forward to seeing at the festival?
Mind Against - Laurent Garnier’s sets are always special to us
Catch Mind Against playing along side Bicep, George Fitzgerald. Monkey Safari, Jasper James + many more at The Social Festival this September.
