The Martinez Brothers make their debut
DJ-duo, Production powerhouse, Label bosses, and more recently, models – if you haven’t heard of The Martinez Brothers, then you must have been living under a rock in the bottom of the deepest crater on the surface of Mars.
Their love for music was instilled in them by their father, who introduced them to House and Disco from a young age. The boys from the Bronx were ordinary high-school teenagers when they took to the wheels of steel, finding their feet in clubs around New York including the world-famous Paradise Garage.
The Brothers quickly gained acclaim and respect on the circuit in the City that never sleeps, and became friends with the makers and shakers of the City’s nightlife, most notably a certain Mr. Dennis Ferrer who quickly became their mentor.
Then in 2007, at just 15 and 17, their big break came. The Brothers were flown to Ibiza (along with their father) to support fellow New Yorker Eric Morillo at the legendary Pacha, and the rest is pretty much history…
However, you can forget meteoric – from that first gig on the White Isle, Chris and Steve have enjoyed a rise through dance music that has been nothing short of cataclysmic. In 2011 the duo landed their first Ibiza residency at DC-10, and since then the club has become their kingdom on the Island, Mixmag dubbing them ‘the crown princes of DC-10’.
Post-2011, The Martinez Brothers have been at the apex of the global underground dance scene in both their production and their performances. Their catalogue constitutes releases on the industry’s biggest and baddest labels such as Yousef’s Circus Recordings, Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels and Steve Lawler’s VIVa Music.
The Martinez Brothers have also enjoyed monstrous collaborations with the likes of Martin Buttrich, Seth Troxler, Miss Kittin, and Nile Rodgers & Chic, and their tracks are a staple of any world-class DJ set.
The recent years have seen the Brothers taking on new ventures. Their own imprint Cuttin’ Headz was launched in 2014, as was their Tuskegee label project in conjunction with Seth Troxler, and both continue to go from strength to strength. That same year, they were named by Mixmag as the much-coveted DJ of the Year.
Chris and Steve have even cast out beyond dance music and into the fashion world, creating collaborations with New Era, producing soundtracks for Givenchy, and the end of 2016 saw them joining the IMG Model ranks alongside Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West.
A Martinez Brothers set is everything you hope for from a world-class DJ – diverse, spontaneous, hair-raising, rolling, smooth, energetic, unpredictable, bouncing – but above all fun, reflected in their presence and enthusiasm behind the decks no matter where they are.
This year is the Social debut for Chris and Steve, and we’re simply thrilled that they are able to join us at the Showground this year.
